Assistant Director

Melissa Martin-Greene Profile photo

“Through UROP, students have the unique opportunity to apply collaborative research skills to help solve some of the greatest scientific problems and social issues of our time.”

Melissa is inspired by the opportunity that UROP provides for students to explore, discover, and reflect, and is particularly interested in empowering young women and underserved populations to participate. As assistant director, Melissa manages UROP’s funding and application review process, develops and advises on policies and procedures, and works directly with mentors to enhance their mentorship skills. She also oversees data analysis and assessment, manages databases/servers & web administration and development, as well as technical support. On any given day you might find her advising students, issuing UROP funding decisions, training mentors, building a database, or troubleshooting a tech issue, all before lunch.

Melissa is a long-time member of the MIT community. Before joining UROP in 1997, she worked with faculty in materials science and engineering, and assisted with the coordination of a summer professional development program for high school math and science teachers. She and her family live in rural NH, where they spend much of their free time in the great outdoors hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing. They’ve also been known to occasionally binge-watch a good sci-fi, fantasy, or mystery series (if you haven’t seen them yet, be sure to check out The Umbrella Academy” on Netflix and HBO’s “The Nevers”.)
