Research Mentoring Certificate for PhDs and Postdocs

CAPD and the Engineering Communication Lab is pleased to announce the return of a unique professional development opportunity for MIT PhDs and postdocs: the Research Mentoring Certificate.

This program provides an opportunity for PhDs and postdocs to develop skills for engaging in productive, culturally responsive, research mentoring relationships—relationships that optimize the success of both mentors and mentees. Each session will be led by facilitators trained by the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER).

During this program, students will explore key concepts in mentoring pedagogy, including:

  *maintaining effective communication
  *aligning mentor/mentee expectations
  *addressing diversity and inclusion
  *assessing understanding

Over the course of the program, students will develop a mentoring philosophy that they put use in their mentoring experiences now and throughout their careers.

This will be the program’s 4th cohort, and over 200 MIT PhDs and postdocs have received the certificate.

All PhDs and postdocs at  MIT who are interested in research mentoring are encouraged to apply for the program by May 1, which will take place in person starting on June 2nd.

Spaces are limited and the admissions process is competitive.
