WaferSat Space Qualification adsa
16: Aeronautics and Astronautics
The Space Systems Laboratory, in collaboration with MIT Lincoln Laboratory, is developing the next generation of small satellites that consist of single silicon wafers. At only 100 grams in mass, WaferSat can enable low cost, low touch-labor, scalable constellations. As an entirely novel satellite class, WaferSat will require a unique test plan for space qualification. The objective of this UROP will be to research and develop the test plans for vibration and thermal vacuum testing. The test plan development will include analysis of maximum static launch loads and structural modes for possible WaferSat deloyment configurations, as well as design of experiments to simulate thermal extremes encountered on-orbit.
Sophmore, Junior, or Senior student. Familiarity with statics, structural dynamics, and heat transfer is preferred.
