Underwater Robotic Simulator (Focus: CS, Robotics, Oceans)

In this project, you will research and develop underwater robotic simulators for underwater navigation and grasping. The project builds in recent work from our lab which enables battery-free underwater communication and sensing: https://techcrunch.com/2019/08/20/mit-develops-a-sensor-that-can-work-underwater-without-a-battery-and-send-back-data/ The goal of this UROP project is to research, develop, and write code that simulates underwater robotics. Responsibilities: The responsibilities of this position will include: (1) Research existing simulators for underwater robotics (2) Develop the simulator codebase to enable new underwater robotic tasks such as navigation and grasping (3) Work with a team to present your work and integrate with large research platform
Prerequisites: - Programming experience in Python or C++ Preferred (but not hard prerequisites): - Experience with Ubuntu - Experience with ROS - Experience with robotic simulators (e.g., Bullet or V-REP)
