Textile design and machine learning
M. Amah Edoh
This UROP is part of a broader anthropological inquiry into design practice and objects, expertise, and the articulation of standards. Working with a database of wax cloth designs (n<100) that have been demonstrated (through both sales and interview data with wax cloth experts) to embody the core, recognizable, valued characteristics of a good wax cloth design, the UROP will be tasked with developing an algorithm using machine learning that captures what makes these prints “good” or “right” and/or an image filter, based on the analysis of this database of images, that captures the characteristics of a “good” or “right” wax cloth design.
- Experience with machine learning for images - Experience with creating image filters - Interest in art/design
