Project Description

About the position: The Poggio Lab at the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Department of MIT is currently looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering undergraduate to work on a new project at the intersection of optics, vision science and robotics. The goal of the project is to construct a prototype electro-mechanical optical device that will simulate tremors of the human eye. The MIT UROP will be mainly supervised by PostDoctoral Research Associates Arturo Deza and Andrzej Banburski. MIT UROPs interested in taking this position should aim for extending the UROP for more than one semester and that will ideally given enough time to produce high quality work ready that may end in publication in a top leading venue such as ICRA, CoRL, NeurIPS, ICLR or CVPR. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who seek to continue a path in graduate school performing future research at the intersection of vision science, computer graphics, robotics, optics and machine learning.


Minimum Qualifications: Basic Knowledge of 3D printing, electronics (Arduino) and optics Intermediate experience with optical devices such as lasers and pico-projectors. Intermediate experience with Hands-On Electro-mechanical devices such as robots and servo-motors Self-motivated Open-minded Preferred Qualifications: Intermediate Knowledge and Experience about Adversarial Images Knowledge and Experience training Convolutional Neural Networks (PyTorch or TensorFlow) Basic Knowledge of Computer Vision and Machine Learning Basic knowledge of the human visual system Comfortable in Linux-based OS Senior Standing and Campus presence preferred.
