Project Description

With the rise of the 24-hour news cycle and the rapid communication of specialized information via the Internet, the potential for the spread of false information through rumors is perhaps greater than at any time in history. This project investigates two critical questions relating to political rumors: who believes them, and what can be done to correct false information in a democratic society? Depending on background and experience, the UROP student will be involved with conducting literature reviews, helping design and program experiments, or participating in other tasks relating to the spread of misinformation in the current political environment. project will be conducted remotely. If interested, please email a resume to Laurel Bliss, the contact for this project. We are ideally looking specifically for candidates who have not yet completed their ELO guarantee for this year, so please indicate this in your application.
