Project Description
The Program in Media Arts and Sciences is the academic arm of the MIT Media Lab, a diverse collection of multitalented individuals and diverse research groups which work on projects focused on intersections in the arts, design, biological sciences, social sciences, artificial intelligence, lifelong learning, robotics, engineering, and more. Much of our work explores connections between seemingly divergent fields, such as nanoelectronics and neurobiology; space travel and social justice; computer science and physical fabrication; and music and democracy. As an MAS ELO UROP, you will participate fully in this unusual, highly creative research experience, attend group and collaborator meetings, and may contribute to papers, exhibits, performances and conference proceedings. Projects vary widely between and within groups, but always focus on hands-on, experiential learning. Student tasks may include software and hardware design, data visualization, audio production, human subjects research, and much more. We welcome students from all majors and with any background. To qualify for ELO funding, you should: *Be an MIT undergraduate *Not have applied for ELO funding through another mechanism at MIT *Be physically located in the US *Preferably be a first year student, but more senior students are also welcome to apply. The pay rate is $13 per hour for up to 10 hours per week. Please feel free to reach out to any group which has a project you might be interested in; all research groups are listed here: https://www.media.mit.edu/research/?filter=groups . Please note the “accepting applicants” tag refers to whether a group is accepting new graduate students, and does not refer to UROPs. In addition, please contact Dr. Mahy El-Kouedi (mahy@media.mit.edu) for more information about the MAS ELO UROP program or to find a research group which might be a good fit. We are very eager to welcome a new cohort of ELO UROPs into our culture, so look forward very much to hearing from you!
