Maka Niu ~ a low-cost oceanographic camera and sensor platform
MAS: Media Arts and Sciences
Dan Novy, PhD, firstname.lastname@example.org, E15-489
The Open Ocean Initiative at the Media Lab is seeking two UROPs for a project that includes the development and fabrication of a low-cost oceanographic camera and sensor platform. The immediate goal of this project is to enable the exploration of undersea environments using a new pressure tolerant camera housing. Other goals include system software engineering for mission programming and data management. The UROPs will assist in assembling the camera system, fabricating the camera housing, developing control systems, and creating the data pipeline to aggregate video and sensor data from deployments. The successful candidate should have experience with microcontroller programming (raspberry pi, arduino, etc), rapid mechanical prototyping (3D printing, laser cutting, etc), and ideally some web-based data management skills. Interests in deep ocean exploration and community outreach are also desirable. UROPs will work as a team with postdocs, researchers, and PIs. Requirements: microcontroller programming experience, fabrication, and web-based data management skills Preferred: interest in ocean exploration and community outreach
