The focus of the project will be centered around the development of a robotic system that is able to carry out continuous flow chemistry. The reconfigurable continuous flow chemistry platform incorporates design concepts from microfluidics, robotics, and precision machine design into an integrated modular system for continuous end-to-end production of molecules. This in-person only UROP is open to any undergraduate at MIT, from first-year students, to seniors. As a UROP, you will work directly with a team of mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, and chemists in developing a machine vision system that will aid in pick-and-place operations for the robot. You will use a combination of Python, OpenCV, and AprilTags to determine reactor position coordinates while working with a four-axis suspended gantry robot. While you will initially work under the direction of the team, capable students may expand this into an opportunity to individually explore new design concepts and modules.
-Strong computer science background -Working knowledge of OpenCV and Python -Preferred but not required: prior experience with machine vision systems
