The Object-Based Media group and Open Ocean Initiative at the Media Lab is seeking a UROP for a project that includes data visualization on an extremely large, pseudo-holographic, volumetric light-field display using laser projection. The immediate goal of this project is to enable the display and exploration of environmental, oceanographic and space data sets in an immersive and captivating environment. The UROP will assist in curating data sources and creating a realtime data pipeline to acquire/query/scrape, clean, parse, and format data for the laser graphics engine to display. The successful candidate should have a strong background in current web development techniques, Python (numpy and pandas), and Processing. Experience with R, d3, SQL, and openFrameworks is also a plus. A strong portfolio with proven skills is required. Interests in narrative data storytelling and game design are also desirable.
