This UROP project will focus on data collection and analytics to support sensor development. The sensors will be used for detecting the efficacy of a novel device used to prevent dangerous ice formations on buildings using liquid deicers. The current research effort requires data be collected from remote field experiments. The role of the UROP will be to build the online infrastructure necessary for collecting this field data, as well as analyzing preliminary data to drive sensor development. Projects are somewhat flexible and can be matched to the experience and interests of the candidate. Given current public health considerations, we will be able to accommodate a fully virtual UROP this summer. We give preference to students who are able to work on an EST work schedule. The ideal candidate should be a proficient programmer and have experience building and managing databases using cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. Other desirable skills include machine learning, data analytics, and IoT. Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, is a plus.
