Greenbelt erosion assessment using remote sensing
David Birge, email@example.com, 919 607 8900)
Greenbelt's were built around the globe to protect ecological and social benefits for urban residents and limit growth of urban centers into existing landscapes. Now many of these greenbelts are over 50 years old. An ongoing project at the Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism (LCAU) aims to assess the original objectives of these greenbelts and measure how these goals have or have not been achieved using satellite data and ecological indicator research. We are seeking an undergraduate researcher (UROP) to help run a novel model developed at the LCAU that classifies land-cover type across a number of global cities with existing greenbelts. Simple statistics will be run on results.
Python is a must. Experience with remote sensing or ML techniques for image classification are beneficial but not required.
