Project Description

This virtual UROP opportunity is a collaboration with Dr. Yuri Quintana of the Division of Clinical Informatics of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The task will be to develop and test a mobile app, using React Native. Alicanto™ is a social learning platform that supports online learning communities supported by multimedia content, courses and online groups. The system can host an on-demand library of learning content, self-paced courses, e-commerce for paid only courses, group areas for document sharing and discussion areas, and video conferencing that can be used for case discussions or consultation meetings. We are currently developing a mobile app that will extend the capabilities of the platform to allow offline viewing of content, and more interactive ways for the community to communicate. The mobile app is being develop in React Native https://reactnative.dev/ for both iOS and Android. The student will develop user interfaces and back end software to allow users of the app access the Alicanto online discussion forums, integrating zoom web conferencing into the app, setting up push notifications for new messages and meetings, and linking to RocketChat, and testing the app for deployment and usage at BIDMC and MIT online communities. The student will work with our exsiting developers and learn code development, code management and code test testing methodologies.
