Project Description

GivingProfiles is a social media platform that collects and presents individuals’ verified charitable donations and volunteer hours. The platform is built from the ground up to ‘nudge’ individuals towards giving more, and giving more deliberately and effectively; its features are informed by the social science research on promoting altruism. It is also designed to serve as a research platform itself, allowing us to test whether the platform and its features are promoting more, and more thoughtful charitable giving. We have an early stage website at givingprofiles.org, which needs to be improved and developed, and we’re looking for a student to help lead that effort. If you’re excited about promoting charitable giving and engagement, implementing and testing your ideas, as well as working with a team of other students, this could be a good fit. The platform was developed in Ruby on Rails, CSS/HTML5, and JavaScript, and also uses Heroku, Jenkins, and Github. You will have an opportunity to learn these tools; existing experience with some of them would help. If you are interested or want to learn more, please reach out to us!
