Project Description

This UROP position will contribute to the project on designing innovative weather insurance for farmers in developing countries. The goal is to create flexible and inexpensive insurance that provides farmers with sufficient compensation, and so generates enough demand for the product to be financially sustainable. Such flexible and relevant coverage requires adaptability to potential climate change scenarios. This UROP focuses on the review and analysis of recent climate change literature. This will include economic, environmental, and scientific publications, with a focus on predicted climate change scenarios and analysis of climate change impact on economic activity in general, and in particular on agriculture. Main work responsibilities include a thorough research and review of the literature, and summary of the findings in a written report. This project is a great opportunity to learn more about climate change predictions and possible impact, and to improve preliminary research and writing skills. Expected hours are at least 10 per week. The candidate should be committed to the project, responsible and organized. To apply, please email Kamilya Tazhibayeva (kamilya@mit.edu) your current resume and why you’re interested in this opening.
