Project Description

Initiated by artist Marisa Morán Jahn, architect Rafi Segal, and Ai-jen Poo, Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, CarePod are examples of care-based co-housing where caregivers live with and care for the elderly. Overtime, caregivers themselves receive care. CarePods seek to stabilize housing precarity for caregivers and elders, redress the social isolation endemic to both groups, and envision a long-term solution to America’s care crisis. “CarePod: Art, Film, and Impacting Care-Based Co-Housing” is a project taking place in Summer 2020 and beyond that invites undergrads from MIT to be involved in research, design, filmmaking, and ethnography. Accepted UROPs would join our broader interdisciplinary group of architects, artists, filmmakers, community organizers, caregivers, and those from finance, real estate, and more.
